Lahore Sports Tournament- A Unique Initiative For Empoweing Women

Lahore Sports Tournament

Lahore Sports Tournament is an organization aimed at promoting sports and supporting sports enthusiasts. Azaan Ali and Syed Sachal have been arranging football tournaments since 2008. Initially, the organization was named as Lahore Soccer Tournament (LST) as the main focus was Football. In 2016 after LST 7 the organization took a break and after 5 years, it was rebranded and revived in 2021.

Realizing that there is a huge gap in the sports industry for other sports, thus, it was rebranded as Lahore Sports Tournament. This way it opened doors for other sports and simultaneously provided a platform to the sports enthusiasts to polish and promote their skills in a highly competitive and safe atmosphere.

What makes this organization unique is that this time it has decided to include women’s teams in their sports tournaments. Isn’t it amazing? Not only soccer but it offers opportunities for women to participate in various other categories. Azaan Ali and Syed Sachal are the brains behind this amazing initiative.

Sports has mostly been associated with men in Pakistan, but LST started a journey to revolutionalize this perception and provide a safe environment for women to pursue their passion. LST has made sure that the women teams are accommodated well and are provided with a safe and secure environment. And for that, Azaan’s wife Mahnoor is leading the women’s registration and communications. Some women managers from their team are responsible for managing women’s sports. So far, around 120 girls are participating in team and individual sports.

Total 6 sports are being included in the upcoming tournament from 11th-13th March being held at Pakistan Sports Coaching Center, Ferozpur Road. Seven-a-side football, Futsal, Badminton, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Basketball are the categories for the sports tournaments. There is a separate category for women sports enthusiasts. This is the first women-friendly sports event and LST is providing them an opportunity to play their hearts out.

The best part is the cash prize worth PKR 400,000/- that will be given across 6 sports. Over 200+ teams have registered from all across Pakistan with an almost equal ratio of male and female sportspersons.

Pakistani women are not lagging in any aspect and are proving that they can do a lot more than what they are expected to do.
