Is Wearing a Face Mask Going to be Mandatory in Pakistan?

In a surprise move Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said on Friday that the government plans on making face masks mandatory in public places. Informing the media that a notification to this effect will be issued soon.

“So far, the government has been recommending that people wear masks when visiting public places. However, we have now decided to make it mandatory as lockdowns have been eased. We will issue a notification in this regard,” he said on the televised press conference while on the covid 19 updates. Prime Minister Imran khan was also a part of the event.

Mirza also shed some light on the recent agreement between Gilead sciences– the US based manufacturer of Remdesivir and BFBL a subsidiary of ferozesons Laboratories on the manufacture and distribution of Remdesivir an antiviral drug recently certified by the FDA for treatment of Covid 19.

“The US company has signed agreements with six companies across the world, of which one of them is from Pakistan. Not only will we be manufacturing the drug for our use, we will also be exporting it to 127 countries,” he said.
