Best Christmas Movies on Netflix Right Now

Looks like the Grinch that stole Christmas this year is COVID-19. While festivities cannot be as grand as they were a year ago, you can still salvage the holiday season by cozying up in a warm blanket, some hot chocolate and a great holiday movies list. ‘Tis the season to stream these movies with family on Netflix:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Who else wanted to live in Whoville when this 2000 live-action adaptation, starring Jim Carrey, was released? Just us? Okay. Based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 story of the same name, all the residents of Whoville enjoy celebrating Christmas except one—the spiteful and vengeful Grinch, or in this time and age, COVID-19, haha! When one six-year-old girl, Cindy Lou, takes interest in the Grinch, he slowly starts to understand the true meaning of the holiday spirit. Practical jokes, fun carols, and a valuable lesson to be learned is why this one ends up on the top of the list.

Holiday in the Wild

After her husband suddenly ends their marriage following her suggestion of a “second honeymoon,” Kate (Kristin Davis) sets out on an African solo safari. It’s there where she helps her pilot (Rob Lowe) rescue a baby elephant. The results? Christmas and new love in another country – love in the holiday season, what more could you want in a holiday movie?

The Holiday Calendar

A photographer inherits an antique Advent calendar that seems to predict her future — including a budding romance. This movie is like a sugar cookie: you know exactly what you’re getting, and it has all the right ingredients (love, magic, presents), but it would’ve been even better with a little frosting on top, is all.

Operation Christmas Drop

Congressional aide Erica Miller lands at a beachside Air Force base, where she clashes with Capt. Andrew Jantz over his pet project — Operation: Christmas Drop. The initial clash results in a budding romance and a reflection of the true essence of the Christmas season.

Merry Happy – Whatever

The holidays can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’re introducing someone special to your family for the first time (a more common practice in the West than in our country).  In Merry Happy Whatever, a holiday-themed series on Netflix, a father (Dennis Quaid) grapples with his daughter’s new boyfriend—not always gracefully.

And a few for the little ones:

Angela’s Christmas Wish

A sequel to the much loved Angela’s Christmas, Angela’s Christmas Wish is a heart-warming tale of a determined little girl who sets out to reunite her family in time for Christmas

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

Decades after his trusted apprentice betrayed him, a once-joyful toymaker finds new hope when his kind and curious granddaughter comes into his life.
