Culture is the lifeblood of a vibrant society, expressed in the many ways we tell stories, celebrate, remember the past, entertain ourselves, and imagine the future. Some convey their love for culture through art, and others through poetry, literature, or film. Clothing, jewelry, etc are all markers for carrying on a large-scale legacy of one’s ethnic background. But more often than not, a true homage to culture is made through the language of food. The same food that can teleport you from one location to another without having to leave the place of your comfort at all. Hence, leading catering brand Sofrazar has taken its passion for culture to another level with its latest endeavor, Daavatnama. In order to share their love for culinary arts and poetics, the caterers presented a delightful evening full of decadent food, a celebration of culture and literature, with a nod to Manto and Ghalib in conversation with the renowned Sarmad Khoosat who recited the words of Ghalib through the lens of Manto. The recitation was followed by a musical performance featuring the soulful singer Nimra Gilani alongside the talented Ali Hamdani on acoustic guitar. Attendees at the event included various celebrities and w factors of culture that included the likes of Tina Sani, Sania saeed and sarwat gilani.
The night was hosted at a poetic residence with an ambiance curated to enjoy soulful music and delectable food. Within seconds of walking in one could only admire the scenic views with a subtle sound of tabla and sitar in the background. Placed on long tables of the patio was tableware custom made of copper and brass and the aromas of the delicious cuisine took over the space. The menu included a mouthwatering array of dishes including salted mutton, pistachio chicken, kundan paneer, beef salta and several other delectable cuisines that were inspired by locations from all over the east. The dining experience was unlike any other. With culinary artistry that has never been experienced in Pakistan before, the caterers truly outdid themselves with the amazing food.
Of course, after all the scrumptious food, the performance began. Pakistan’s very own distinguished director Sarmad Khoosat took to the stage and began his recitation of ‘Ghalib Aur Chaudhai’. Speaking in a boisterous tone he expressed every word with true passion. Audience members were swayed and enthralled by the poetic words of Ghalib and Manto. Laughter, awe, and delight filled the air as listeners reminisced over the couplets of Pakistan’s greatest writers to date. Of course, the night of poetry continued with Nimra Gilani and Ali Hamdani whose exceptional musical talent enthralled everyone in the room. Playing Pakistani classics the duo definitely knew how to captivate spectators with soulful sounds and an exceptional playlist. Surely a treat for anyone who loves to celebrate culture and poetry on an intimate level.
Sofrazar’s Daavatnama is surely raising the bar when it comes to merging the love of food and literature in a way that’s never been done before. We were in absolute awe of the event and can’t wait to see what’s coming up next for this superb catering brand!
