Winter is here and we’re all struggling with dry patches all over the body. Our body responds to the changing weather conditions and we must make necessary arrangements for it. No matter how much one is conscious about their skin, this particular time of the year always comes with dry skin and patches that need to be catered. Here are some of the tips and remedies to prevent dry skin in the winter season!
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
One can’t stress more this to get rid of dry skin. We wash our hands and face numerous times a day. The right thing to do is moisturize your hands, feet, and face right after washing to prevent dryness. This is also important because, with washing, the natural oil of the skin also gets washed off so it’s important that a good moisturizer is used to replace that. A moisturizer is a must have in cold, dry weather to keep the skin soft. Moreover, don’t forget to keep a travel size moisturizer with you in your bag so it’s always there to rescue you!
Easy on exfoliation
Normally our skincare routine consists of cleansing, exfoliation, and moisturizing. However, one must note that they should go easy on exfoliation during the winter season when they’re struggling with dry skin. This is because the skin is already dry and flaky and over-exfoliation can cause it to worsen. Over-exfoliation usually breaks down the skin barrier and causes a lot more damage. Other than this, if the skin is cracked or irritated, the use of exfoliators should be avoided to prevent any more damage.
Avoiding hot water
Although one loves to use hot water in cold weather, it is better to shift to lukewarm water instead of hot water. This is advised in order to keep the skin soft, smooth and nourished. Hot water is likely to wash away the skin’s natural oils faster than lukewarm water, therefore, the latter is beneficial to maintain hydrated skin. Moreover, while showering, one must not rub the skin vigorously with a towel but should pat it gently to avoid any rash.
Skincare routine
One must take care of their skin routine according to their skin type. The ingredients that are used should be suitable for dry skin in order to achieve the desired results. Also, if your skin gets irritated and extra dry during the winter season, it is advised to simplify the skincare routine instead of an extensive one as too much rubbing of the skin can cause damage. A moisturizer, sunscreen, and cleanser are good to continue with! Moreover, a lot of toners and serums should not be applied if the skin has become sensitive as it may react to any ingredient.
Overnight skincare
Another tip to get rid of dry skin is to perform an overnight skincare routine which allows the skin to absorb the night cream and replenish the skin. Moreover, these overnight treatments provide the skin with adequate moisture and oils throughout the night to keep it hydrated and fresh in the morning.
