Feroza Aziz, an American born teenager released a make up tutorial on Tik Tok. Just another among many, right? Turns out, the video was actually her talking about the mistreatment of the Uyghur Muslims at the hands of China and it’s “Re-education” camps. The video went viral and reached over a million views in a short time, but to Feroza’s dismay, Tik Tok promptly proceeded to suspend her account quoting ” violation of community guidelines.” Tik Tok is a company owned by a Chinese corporation. It isn’t hard to put two and two together about what happened.
What followed next was a public apology from the App, but according to Feroza, Tik Tok has not reached out to her personally, and has only released statements of apology directly to the press.
In a recent interview with BBC, Feroza says she will continue to raise her voice for the voiceless and is not scared of Tik Tok or their power.
In case you are hearing about this for the first time, the Uyghur muslims and other muslim minorities in China are being forcibly thrown in concentration camps, disguised as “re-education” camps. These people are completely innocent, the only sin they’ve committed according to the Chinese government is being Muslims.
Women and men are being raped by officers, muslims are forcibly being fed pork and alcohol, medical experiments are being conducted on them which have led to cognitive breakdowns and impotency in some of the people imprisoned. A former teacher who was hired by the Chinese government to teach these muslims Chinese has fled with her family and received Asylum in Sweden after she came forward with what she witnessed. According to her, a woman was gang raped after being forced to disrobe in front of more than 200 officers and everyone was forced to watch the incident. Those who turned away or showed any signs of anger or sadness at what they were seeing were taken away by the officers, never to be seen again. The women who are raped often times end up pregnant and are forced to have abortions in abysmal conditions. Punishments range from deprivation of food to the pulling out of fingernails and worse.
The worst part is, Pakistan is one of the countries that applauded China for it’s “remarkable achievements in the field of Human Rights. “, just a day after a group of 22 other countries formally condemned Beijing for the mass detention of ethnic and religious minorities in the country’s Xinjiang region.
Maybe it’s about time we stripped the incredibly undeserving Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, who encouraged the ethnic cleansing of Rohingyar Muslims, and handed it to powerful women who are actually doing the best they can to help the helpless.
