1. What’s your biggest passion?
I have always been intrigued by big sets and larger-than-life stories. After achieving so much with the grace of the Almighty, I feel immensely passionate about filmmaking and direction, I want to create something like Sunjay Leela Bhansali does.
2. How long have you been doing makeup?
Honestly, it feels like I have been doing this for as long as I remember. But if we must put a number on it, I think it’s been more or less 13 years in the industry.
3. What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
The magic associated with makeup is what inspires me. Oh, I can’t begin to describe how mesmerizing it still is for me, the whole process of transformation and bringing out the best in people I work with. All these years the force that kept me going has been the satisfaction and bliss on the faces of my clients and models after makeup.
4. Who is your dream muse?
Everyone who is working hard on their craft inspires me, but these days I am thoroughly inspired by Hina Afridi, my baby sister. She pulls off typical Eastern looks as flawlessly as she does a modern Western look.
5. What are your two favorite cosmetic products?
Hands down Mascara and lash curler. I think this shows how much emphasis on the eyes as the window of people’s souls.
6. What would you do if you made a mistake while applying makeup on a client?
Although with this much experience, I don’t come across makeup mistakes as often I understand that mistakes make us human and I would not hesitate in removing and redoing my client’s makeup if needed.
7. Which makeup trend do you find interesting this season?
Keeping the look as natural as possible and experimenting with the hairstyles is interesting and I think could be defined as THE makeup look of this era.
8. What was the most challenging project you’ve worked on?
I believe I am still looking forward to that very project. So far I have been blessed with a wonderful team, cooperative models and clients, and the favor of luck.
9. How do you handle stress at work?
The fashion industry is always on the go, the higher its pace, the higher the stress levels of course. What I do is, keep things humane; I try to be emphatic towards others and forgiving at my end. This combo works all the time. I also do this self-calming manta “it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok” whenever things go out of hand.
10. What makes you stand out from other makeup artists?
I don’t believe in imposing a look that I created. I rather go with what my client needs, what makes them happy and stress-free on their big day. I think that’s what keeps them coming back to me.
