December 16 holds immense importance in Pakistan’s history as two tragic events took place. These pivotal events left a stagnant print on the country’s memory!

In 2014, Pakistan witnessed one of its darkest days when a terrorist attack took place in Army Public School Peshawar. This tragic event succumbed 150 lives including 134 students. The brutality of the event targeted innocent children making it one of the deadliest terror incident. The 10th anniversary of this dark day reminds us of all the innocent lives lost, the brutality of terrorism and the resilience of the survivors.

Fall of Dhaka 16 December 1971

Another tragic event in the history of Pakistan is the fall of Dhaka that too happened on the same date. This led to the secession of East Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh. Although this day is seen as victory in Bangladesh, but in Pakistan, a sense of loss is felt.

This day stands as a day of reflection which stresses on identifying the root cause of strife and to peacefully settle matters by negotiation. This would prevent conflicts resulting in violence and intense decisions.
