What a way to honour the country that hosts you.
Goodwill Ambassador to Pakistan, British-American Vanessa O’Brien has carried the Pakistani flag to the deepest point of Earth named ‘Challenger Deep’.
This mission has made Vanessa O’Brien the first woman to reach the highest and the lowest points of the earth. The point is so deep that if Everest is put in the Challenger Deep, it will still be 2 km under the water!
O’Brien is also the second woman in history to make this dive, following Kathy Sullivan, 68, an oceanographer, astronaut and the first American woman to walk in space.
Both women are passengers of Victor L. Vescovo, a wealthy investor who has climbed Mount Everest and last year piloted a mini submarine into the Challenger Deep.
Vanessa’s friend, Durdana Ansari, OBE Hon Cdr Royal Navy, presented her with the Green flag given by Pakistan High Commissioner to UK, Nafees Zakaria, at the High Commission in London.
In a joint statement released yesterday, Durdana said, “I feel absolutely honoured to be part of this expedition, and proud to bear witness to this historic event. I hope this flag’s incredible journey to this extraordinary place brings good luck for Pakistan.”
“I feel absolutely honoured to be part of this expedition, and incredibly proud to bear witness to this historic event. I hope the flag’s journey to this amazing place brings good luck for Pakistan.”, added O’Brien.
We hope to see our national flag reach more heights, and depths, in times to come.
