How to Switch Up Your Skincare Routine for Winter

Incase the excitement of chunky knits and boots and everything else that comes with it made you forget, here’s a friendly reminder: Winter is coming.  And before you get lost in a whirlwind of hot chocolates and chai dhabas, you gotta take care of that skin girl! The cooler months mean your skin is about to get exposed to some incredibly dry weather, not helped by the hours you’re about to spend in front of fireplaces and heaters, so we suggest you get on updated your skin care regime to incorporate the changing weather. Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Avoid long hot showers/baths

After spending an ungodly amount of time out in the cold, a hot shower may seem like the perfect end to a long, cold, winter day, but if you want your skin to stay baby soft, keep the showers as short as humanly possible! Prolonged  water contact can suck out the natural moisturizing factors in your skin, making it dry and irritated.

  1. Layer Your Moisturizer

Just like an extra layer of clothing can help retain body heat, applying a serum or oil under your moisturizer helps seal in skin’s moisture much better. Pro Tip: Do this at night with a heavy moisturizing cream while your face is still damp after washing and wake up with bouncy, hydrated skin.

  1. Invest in a Humidifier

Nothing is too drastic for the sake of good skin! Combat the dry weather indoors caused by heaters and fires and invest in a good humidifier, especially while you sleep. The thing you hate most in summer, habs (humidity), is going to save you in the coming months. Bonus point for all our working girls, keep one in your office!

  1. Use Vitamin E on your lips

The lips are usually the first part of our faces that start cracking under the winter pressure. A surefire way to keep them soft and crack free is by using vitamin E capsules. Just pop one open and apply the gel directly onto your lips at bedtime, and layer with your favourite lip balm or organic oil, and voila! Your lips will be smooth and crack free by morning. And this works just as well on the corners of the mouth too!

  1. Never EVER Forget Sunscreen

We know you’ve heard this a million times before, but we did not understand the importance of sunscreen either until we reached our late 20’s. It makes a HUGE difference in the texture and appearance of your skin and just because it will seem like the Sun has forgotten all about you in the dead of winter, it’s still just as harsh, we assure you.  UV radiation is around all year long so it’s best to keep your skin prepared all year round too.
