Sonya Hussyn Reveals Why She Turned Down the Role of ‘Mehwish’ from ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’

One of the highest rated drama serials of Pakistan, Mere Pass Tum Ho, was met with astounding success for it’s gripping storyline and cast full of veteran actors. After watching Ayeza Khan taking the role of Mehwish, the unfaithful wife, in her stride and making it her own, we cannot imagine anyone else doing a better job.  Yet, Khan was not the first choice for the role. Brunette bombshell Sonya Hussyn was offered the controversial part, before it landed on Ayeza Khan.

In a recent interview with Iffat Omar on her show Say It All with Iffat Omar, Sonya Hussyn reveals why she turned down the part, saying:

” Woh mere apnay koi masail hain auraton ko ley keh. Hamaray society mei auraton ki acceptance nai hai. Mei nai chahti mei aisay koi issue deydu unko. Obviously wo aik story hai, wo actors hain, characters play  karahay hain, lekin mujhe kuch masla hai, mei khawateen ko bura nahi dekh sakti. Shayad isliye  mei uss character ko accept nai kar pa rahi thi.”

When asked if she regretted turning down the role after it’s massive success, Hussyn replied:

” Bilkul bhi nai. Meine bahut soch samjh kar decision liya tha. Infact, abhi Nadeem bhai aur Adnan, hum sab sath he bethay thay aur wo boltay thay ‘dekho dekho kitna acha jaraha hai’, aur hastay thay. “

“I feel honoured when Nadeem bhai and Humayun mentioned in recent interviews that I was their first choice for ‘Mehwish’, but everyone has their own reasons for turning roles down. This role was very challenging for Ayeza Khan but she portrayed it very well.”
