If you’re not a Korean Food kind of person, a) get help, and b) head over to Udon House ASAP to convert! Lahore’s latest newfangled surprise, nestled into Hotel One, is cosy and affordable, the staff are friendly and polite, and the food is light, authentic and packs a mean punch.

Udon House (Korean for Noodle House) is sleek, stylish and sunny: pressed-wood tables and benches and a wall of windows. The place is small – about 15 people max can dine at one time – but it well makes up for it’s size with the food quality. The owners are bustling around, warm and welcoming with lots of fun stories to tell, and the service is fantastic.Counter service ensures prices are good enough for budget-conscious young couples, students, and families to enjoy themselves. We decided to start with the seafood udon (pictured), and the vegetable udon and chicken udon looked divine too. The broth of the udon was hearty and flavorful, and the ingredients tasted super fresh. After slurping down the delicious mussels, it’s time for the main course. The kimchi fried beef rice (pictured) paired with a side of tangy kimchi(pictured) cannot be described in words, but for those with a smaller appetite, we recommend this fun novelty: sticky rice balls garnished with sesame seeds (pictured). Choose from a filling of ground beef, vegetables or tuna, and tuck in. As we chatted to the charming owner, he told us the rice balls originated during the Korean War by soldiers who wanted to pack as much as they could into their canteens. The bibimbab, omelet, curry and bulgogi rice toppings are a must-have as well.

You might as well be in Korea, without the long flight!
