MINAAL KHAWAJA HEADS OVER TO KARACHI’S SWANKY NEW EATERY FOR A GIRLY LUNCH

After hearing all about Cosmopolitan, my girlfriends and I decided to head straight to the much talked-about bistro for an afternoon of lunching. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements, and it is safe to say that celebrated architect Naheed Mashooqullah has once again outdone herself with the design aesthetic. She has created an ambience that fits perfectly with the fun and exciting atmosphere, using quirky quotes as wall art to embellish the casual yet modern ambiance. The manager greeted and seated us warmly, and as we sat down with our favourite summer tunes playing in the background, the mood was immediately set for our perfect girly lunch date.

The menu left us spoilt for choice, so we opted for a tasting menu. We began our foodie adventure with Cosmopolitan’s signature drink, The Blue Hawaiian. A cold, slushy and refreshing drink full of flavour was just what we needed right before our starter platter was served. The platter consisted of mouth-watering Fried Calamari, Chicken Strips, Jalapeno Peppers, and Bacon on a Date served with some of Cosmopolitan’s signature sauces. Everything came piping hot and the serving size was just right to share. What struck us most on the plate was the Bacon on a Date – beef bacon and dates packed together to form a surprising combination that tickle your taste buds and hits the spot. The sudden gush of savory and an aftertaste of sweet had us all falling in love with the dish.

We also ordered Spaghetti with Chilli Garlic Prawns, a Chicken Fajita Sandwich, Mini Burgers (the triplets) and the Greek Pizza. The Spaghetti with Chilli Garlic Prawns was made to perfection; it was dense, with a hint of Parmesan, parsley and olive oil amongst a more prominent tinge of chilli and garlic, perfectly balancing all the flavors into equilibrium. The Greek Pizza was an interesting creation in itself. A thin crust with a hummus base, topped with cherry tomatoes, olives, rocket leaves and feta cheese all come together well, but lacked the ‘pizza effect’ that one would usually expect. Although it didn’t work well for us as a pizza, we were pleased to have tried something new. Last but definitely not the least, it is safe to say that our two favourites on the table were the Mini Burgers and the Chicken Fajita sandwich. The three different ‘Triplets’ (mushroom, jalapeno and classic) melted in our mouths while exploding with flavour with every bite. The buns were freshly baked and the meat was juicy and tender all the way through!

Finally, even though we were done and bursting at the seams from our glutinous lunch, our temptations got the better of us and we decided to split a dessert. We indulged in the rich 100% Belgian Chocolate Tart. The consensus on the table was that this was by far the most heavenly chocolate tart we have had in the city! Be sure to add this to your bucket list the next time you visit because it my absolute favourite dessert this summer! All in all, our experience at Cosmopolitanwas an absolute delight! It is clear that owners Danish Ishtiaq, Ahmed Ali and Mohsin Ihsan have all put in a great deal of time and effort into their establishment, showcasing their passion and love for Food. The excellent service, generous portions, and fun atmosphere of this bistro guarantees you a great time!
