VETERAN RESTAURATEUR KAMRAN SHEIKH REVIVES CAFETERIA-STYLE DINING WITH HIS LATEST VENTURE. ANUSHA BAWANY TAKES A CLOSER LOOK:
Lahore Cafeteria takes you back to an era gone by, with a classic 50’s style mess hall setting with a diner feel and wholesome, quality Food! Located on The Mall opposite theLahore High Court, this latest edition to Lahore’s happening resto scene, is the first time a self-service cafeteria-style restaurant has opened in Lahore, where clean, home cooked Food is served up with an unlimited supply of roti. Kamran Sheikh, the man who brought you OPTP, Veranda, Gun Smoke and many other favourites, works his magic yet again!

The basic flow of your dining experience is fairly simple: you pick from either a Rs. 400, Rs. 500 or Rs. 600 platter, pay up front and get your token (yes a token!) and go in. From there, it’s your call. You can pick and choose what you’re in the mood for from the items that are part of your chosen deal and fill up your plate! This includes a main course, salad and dessert.

Everything on the menu looks appealing and hits close to home, with dishes that take you right into your own grandmother’s kitchen. The Handi, Palak Gosht, Shami Kababs, White Curry Chicken and Matar Palao are all done just right. For anyone who is a sucker for traditional desi, feel-good items – this is the place for you. But it doesn’t stop there. Like any meal, the desserts are the best part! Torn between the Kheer and Shahi Tukray, I tried both and have no regrets. All the menu items bring to the table what they promised – a satisfying and authentic tasting home cooked meal well worth every penny.

The Food quality and interior are both up to par with the quality that has become synonymous with Sheikh’s name. The communal cafeteria-style interior is a great new idea, and goes perfectly with the long display counter, as well as their visible kitchen and backend infrastructure. With the attention to hygiene and customer care, and the great value for your meal, Lahore Cafeteria is keeping things simple and making it work.

Lahore Cafeteria is a step towards reviving the glory days of the Mall Road, where Food was served in an effortless, clean atmosphere, with affordable prices and uncompromising quality. A straight forward concept with a fresh take, this new eatery has already established its name within Lahore and is a must visit to anyone who hasn’t been, is looking for a hearty meal out on a budget, or who misses their school days waiting in line for lunch.By: Anusha Bawany
