Cosa Nostra, more of an institution than a restaurant, has become synonymous with quality dining since its inception in the early 2000’s. Started and run by Shan, Yasmin and Shireen – three talented siblings of Italian descent – it is one of the most popular dining establishments in Lahore, and for good reason. From the thin crust pizza’s to the gelato, everything about the Food at Cosa Nostra is pure perfection. Hearing that they revamped the menu of the upper story of the restaurant, La Tavola, with a myriad of staple Italian dishes along with some new favorites, we made a reservation and headed over for a girly lunch for four!
Munching on some warm bread and butter, I combed through the menu, totally spoiled for choice. We decided to go with the brie cheese balls, coated with toasted crispy nuts and dipped in jalapeno jelly – which were absolutely divine – as well as the prawn and avocado salad, which was warm and packed full of flavours – honey mustard, olive oil, lemon and more. The quinoa Salad topped with currants and roasted pinenuts is fresh, light and healthy, and the mussels in garlic butter as well as the crispy ladyfingers teamed with garlic and parsley dipping sauce hit the spot! I already know I want to try the Vittello Tonnato, thinly sliced veal with capers and tuna crème, as well as the Angus Beef Carpaccio that comes with fresh rocket and parmesan shavings for next time.
For the mains, I was hungry enough to order up a storm but had to control myself. We ordered the much talked about Gourmet Burger and the fresh mushrooms and truffle oil pizza. It is safe to assume that the Cosa Nostra burgers are among the best Lahore has to offer, but this new addition takes Cosa to a new level! The Gourmet Burger has a thick, juicy and seasoned beef patty teamed with fun sauces like chutneys, topped off with a wasabi mayo that adds the ultimate kick of flavour! Paired with the famous Cosa fries, this dish lived up to the Pakistan Food Forum hype! Being a sucker for anything truffle, the authentic pizza still remains my personal favourite. Whether at lunch or for a girls night in, I could eat this pizza everyday!
Cosa Nostra’s spaghettis and pastas are also amongst the best in the industry, and my friends could not stop raving about the Spaghetti Pomodoro and the rock lobster ravioli with salsa rosa. I have bookmarked the seafood medley, osso bucco, sea sole with lemon butter and parsley roast potatoes, the claypot Braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes, and the homemade smoked chicken ravioli with parmesan cream sauce – all stand outs that screamed hearty comfort food.
Of course no meal (and truly no Italian meal) is complete without some creamy gelato, and between the four of us, we dug into two scoops of pistachio and Nutella ice cream and some delicious espresso. There is a good reason that Cosa Nostra is seen as one of the top restaurants in Lahore, and the La Tavola revamped menu is the perfect balance of sticking to tradition while changing things up. g
