After attending a birthday brunch at Orrery’s snazzy rooftop lounge, I made up my mind to come back to sample the Food at Mehr Azam‘s newly opened restaurant at some point too, so I picked a sunny Tuesday afternoon and decided to treat my mother to a girly lunch date.
Orrery is a 3-in-1 combo, and let me tell you, that’s not an easy feat to manage and execute well. With three distinctive and individual restaurant styles packed under one roof, Orrery has something for everyone.
We were greeted by a warm and welcoming manager, and very polite staff. That always sets the tone! We decided to start our meal with the first floor, housing a fine dining restaurant called Estrela. The ambiance is that of any high-end restaurant; soft music, intimate lighting and a menu that leaves you spoilt for choice. We shared a smoked tomato soup, which was refreshing and not very heavy, and the house special gourmet salad, made with crispy fresh greens, pine nuts and turkey bacon. The fried calamari is a must-have, as is my personal favourite appetizer – Camarones Picantes –chili prawns in a garlic and herb seasoning. The Poulet Farci was a delicious chicken stuffed with avocado with creamy white sauce. Other popular dishes from Estrela include the stuffed mushrooms and fried prawns. The Vivaneau Grille, a pepper crusted grilled fish in a garlic honey sauce, is an excellent choice for fish lovers.
The second floor houses the restaurant Café Ocoa. With big leather sofas, comfy armchairs, a cigar lounge and big screen TVs covering the walls, this level is definitely for the boys. Hosting special events such as cricket nights or private parties, Café Ocoa has a homey feel where you would go to just hang out with friends and munch on some delicious snacks. The Café Ocoa menu is filled with comfort Food. The trio burgers come with three different toppings – mushroom, cheese and jalapeno – with the jalapeno burger being the best of the lot. The open-faced vegetable sandwich, made on brown bread and topped with avocado, roasted bell peppers and asparagus is great for vegetarians and waistline watchers alike. The menu also consists of all-day breakfast and dinner items, consisting largely of American burgers, pizzas and sandwiches.
The rooftop, and my personal favorite part of the whole experience, is the Orrery O’Grill where they serve up delicious Lebanese and Brazilian BBQ with a live grill that starts after 7 PM. Beautifully decorated with a view of sea view beach, this rooftop has definatly got charm and is understandably the most popular restaurant of the three. It’s also a great spot for a brunch, a private party or dinner out with friends when the weather is good. The crew creates bespoke menu’s and has an in-house event manager that can help assist as well. Oh, and the best part? O’Grill has individual mini grills placed on each table with your Food cooking on skewers right in front of you. I had my eye on the lobster, but chose to order the BBQ Skewer Farlidinha Steak, which had an authentic Brazilian taste, was extremely tender and was topped in a delicious Bordelais Sauce. The smoked taste of the meat and the effort in execution explains why the O’Grill is extremely popular and well worth the price.
Saving the best for last: no meal is complete without dessert. Even though we were bursting to the brim, we decided to try the strawberry pavlova and a bite each of the chocolate profiterole. Both come with our seal of approval!
So next time you want to dine out, and are looking for a fun new place with lots of character and Food that won’t disappoint, you know where to go.
