In our newest online feature, #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) we will be reliving some of the best and most memorable moments from Sunday Magazine’s archives. Log onto our website every Thursday as we highlight our favourite people and events from days gone by!
For our first throwback, we picked fashion favourite Mahgul Rashid.
Starting out as an artist and winning a distinction with her undergraduate thesis show at Beaconhouse National Univeristy, Lahore-based fashion designer Mahgul Rashid designed her first collection as a capsule line for her grandmother Nasreen Shaikh’s label. The Archive Collection debuted at PFDC Sunsilk fashion Week 2014 with star actress, singer and model Meesha Shafi as the showstopper. Modeled by Amna Baber and shot by Faisal Farooqui at the Daily Times printing press, this elegant and unique collection made it’s first print appearance in our magazine.

The following year, Mahgul’s whimsical Ayal collection was on our cover, starring Rema Qureshi and Amna Baber, shot by the talented Muzi Sufi. This gorgeous and powerful shoot was one of our favourite covers to date!
Mahgul then re-launched herself as a solo designer, with her breathtaking collection, A Wild Rose. Mahgul tells us she has been greatly inspired by her grandmother Nasreen Shaikh her whole life, not only in terms of design aesthetic but in other walks of life too, and although she broke away to form her own label, the collection was still a tribute to her grandmother, as Nasreen means a wild rose. Following her showing at PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week, her gorgeous shoot, featuring Mehreen Syed and photographed by Ather Shahzad, debuted on our cover.

Mahgul has taken great strides in her nascent career, and we know there is more action to come! The designer has some exciting plans for her upcoming bridal collection that will be shown at PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week in September 2015, and you can be sure to tune in to Sunday magazine for that! We have greatly enjoyed our journey with Mahgul Rashid, and are looking forward to more.
