With over ten years of experience, Hussain Dossa is one of the top commercial DJ’s of Pakistan. He first started mixing on records and CD Jays, and is now using Traktor Scratch pro and the Maschine by native instruments to mix all his music. He is known for mixing up beats with a fusion of genres including deep house, old school hip hop, 80’s/90’s classics and the latest Top 40 dance music. When asked,. he said his most memorable event would be a Beach Party in Ponta Do Ouro, Mozambique, Africa, and his current favorite track is Waves by Mr. Probz.

Hira Tareen
Hira harnessed her musical inclinations at a relatively early age, playing the tabla from when she was ten, and ventured into percussion, too. It was at University that she was introduced to the concept of DJ’ing and mixing music. She purchased a set of turntables and some records, and the rest, as they say, is history. “My first gig was my most memorable. It was a New Year’s Eve event in Dallas, Texas. I had the midnight slot, and was too young to get into clubs otherwise, so it was super cool,” she laughs. Her current favourite tracks are Running by Cleopold and Cassian and Everything by Karin Park and Maya Jane Coles.

ASSAD SAIFULLAH (aka DJ BARRISTER)
Assad, as his pseudonym suggests, is a cutthroat lawyer by day and a rocking DJ by night. Assad bought his first pair of turntables in 2002 and hasn’t looked back, going on to play at the world famous Ministry of Sound parties. His current favourite track is London Grammar – Hey Now (Sasha Remix).

DJ Buland
Starting in 2003, DJ Buland has shot to popularity in many Lahore circles for his pop remixes that get everyone dancing and singing out loud. It’s no wonder he tells us his current favourite songs are Summer by Calvin Harris, Tsunami by Dybbs and Borgeous and Timber by Pitbull feat. Kesha. If you happened to be at the Sensation White party in Lahore, or the Islamabad Halloween Masquerade party, you will know what we are talking about!

DJ Rishi
DJ Rishi has been playing for sixteen years now, starting his career by playing at school funfairs in ninth grade and mixing music for friends and families at their parties. Although he has played alongside Akcent and Alexandra Stan, his most famous party to date is a New Years Eve Buddha Bar party. His current favourite tracks are Summer by Calvin Harris, Dangerous feat. Sam Martin and David Guetta, Fireball by Pitbull and I House You by Lutzenkirchen.

DJ Khan
DJ Khan is well known for playing with the Ministry of Sound and DJ Ravin of Buddha Bar, but has been spinning music since 1989. “I used to own a music shop. One day, a client requested that I play at her party, and it went really well,” he says. DJ Khan has not stopped spinning since! He is currently loving the tracks Summer by Calvin Harris and Happy by Pharell.

Hassan Malik aka Vivid

Hassan has been obsessed with music from his early days, but discovered his passion for Electronica in 2002. Influenced by Los Suruba, Tigerskin, Ricardo Villalobos, Theo Parish and John Digweed (to name a few!), his love for music turned Hassan Malik into DJ Vivid. Some career highlights include playing at The Ministry of Sound events in Lahore along with a party hosted by his label, Night With Sun. His current favourite song is Mr Raoul K – Sene Kela feat. Laolu (Mr Raoul K & Laolu Version).

DJ Trix
DJ Trix has been spinning for about five years now. Being a huge music fan, his friends encouraged him to make them playlists and play at their parties, which is what led him to learn the proper techniques of DJ-ing. While he doesn’t do commercial events, he has played some crazy beats at memorable private farmhouse parties -we’re sure many of you have danced the night away to his tunes. His favourite song these days is Cool Kids by Lauren Lane (Original Mix).

Faisal Baig
After having studied at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he was first introduced to Electronic Music Synthesis and Engineering, Faisal returned to Pakistan and has been busy producing music for some of the nation’s biggest names, as well as international corporations and media networks. “I was one of the first DJ’s to emerge from Karachi’s underground house music scene in the mid 2000’s” he tells us. While most parties and events have been special for him, the beach events of Karachi from a few years back will always remain as his most memorable, as they were really raw, pure, and people came just for the music! His favourite current track is Layo & Bushwacka – Raw Undefined.

Tajdar O Chaudry aka MISTERTIJAY
Tajdar AKA MisterTiJay has had a strong connection with music since a very early age, but it wasn’t till 2010 that he finally started experimenting with breaking apart sounds and putting them back together. It was then that he realized that this fascination was fast turning into a passion at an addictive level. While he enjoys almost all the occasions he has played at, he says his favourite gig has to be a recent one in Paris. “I was experimenting with some new sounds, and the audience were totally into it. I ended up playing 90 minutes more than I’d planned to,” he said. His signature style has no specific genre, but mainly comprises of dance floor basslines and groove mixes with blasts from the past. His current favorite track is Destructo ft YG’s Party Up (Vanilla Ace & Dharkfunkh Remix).

Aly Rana
Aly Rana was one of Karachi’s most sought after DJ’s till his recent move to Dubai! He started his professional career in 2003, and got his first club residency in 2004 and the second one in 2005 (both in the U.S). One of his biggest achievements was playing at an opening party for the NFL champions at the time – the Pittsburg Steelers at their home stadium, the Heinz Field. “There were close to ten thousand people in attendance and it was a rush to play for such a large crowd. I am also a big football fan so that made it even more exciting,” he smiles While his signature sound is comprised of Top 40 mixed with electro beats, his current favourite track is All About the Bass by Megan Trainor.

Ali Safina
Ali was first introduced to DJing in Glasgow through friends at University. He started DJ-ing at various parties and events, which lead him to join the radio industry for the first time where he met other DJ’s who helped in teaching him the game. When we asked what his most memorable moment was, like a true party goer he tells us “I’ve never been able to remember any best party. I guess that how it’s supposed to be!” His current favourite track is KANT- Get On Up (Low Fat Fashion Bootleg).

Talal AND Zoi

The dynamic duo started listening to electronic music in 2004 and had decided to pursue music as a full time career by 2006. They cite Sasha’s Album Involver I as their main musical influence, saying “once we heard that, we knew we had to make electronic music.” They play at clubs and parties galore, but their favourite performances are at the Secret Society Super Moon beach parties that have a totally different crowd and vibe than what they are used to. Epikur by David August is their current favourite song.

Waleed Hameed
“I’ve been DJ’ing since I was sixteen but have been into collecting music from a very early age, and was always playing music for my friends,” Waleed tells us. His musical influences range from Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd to The Prodigy and Daft Punk. He credits the Chicago house sounds of Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie, for helping him discover the hidden night life that his city had to offer. “Last year, my friends and I organized a monthly series of events called Beats Not Bombs, which have definitely been the most rewarding DJ’ing experience I’ve had: a quality venue, top sound and lights, an open minded crowd and forward thinking house music all came together for what I like to think were some of the best parties I’ve played at to this day,” he says. These days, he loves to end the night with Rare Bloom (Original Mix) by Dark Sky.
