Here’s how my first time at Citrus went! I had heard mixed reviews but my Aba insisted and what a meal it was! The gorgeous Galleria Mall has Citrus tucked away in the first floor. Here’s how lunch went: My Roast Tomato Basil Soup was perfect. Smooth, not too creamy and heavy, not too thin and watery, with the fresh tomato purée’s texture JUST right. Often I get a weird smell in soups at restaurants but this was utterly fresh. Abu was also most satisfied with his French Onion Soup.
I haven’t had good Khao Suey in Lahore, like, EVER. So I was nervous ordering this one but the manager Taimur Hassan assured me that I would not be disappointed and indeed I was not! Yummmmmmilocus! Perfect Burmese Khao Suey in a delicate coconut sauce. Everything was perfect including the tasteful presentation on a high burner, surrounded by all the various condiments, fresh spring onions, chopped boiled eggs, fried onions, papri. Slurped the noodles down in heavenly silence. The coconut, the spices, the comforting textures hitting all the right spots.
Aba ordered the chicken Kiev. Now I’ve written about Kiev before. It’s another one of my favorite dishes and not an easy one to make. The Citrus Kiev has a lovely crunchy thin batter, encasing a simple soft succulent chicken breast resting on a bed of smooth mashed potatoes. Aba cut it right in the middle and the butter oozed onto the bed of mash. Thankfully no cheese and garlic, simple butter, just the way a Chicken Kiev is supposed to be. YUM, most exciting!
It sounds to good to be true but the deserts didn’t disappoint at all either! Aba ordered Poached Pears in a flakey perfect puff pastry served with cream anglaise. And it was fantastic! I ordered a decadent flakey, caramel bread pudding. Utterly indulgent and divine. The pudding itself is not overly sweet at all, so it works really well served in a pool of caramel sauce and topped with home made vanilla ice cream. Doesn’t get better than this!
Washed it all down with an espresso and mint green tea Kavaa.
Had to personally thank the chef, Mr Mohammad Ilyas, and the pastry chef for their talents. Also had to thank the manager Mr Taimur Hassan for his excellent service, patience and recommendations. The waiter Mr Shehzad Amanat was also so attentive, polite and well trained that it made the whole experience a double treat!
I have no idea about anyone else but I’m going back for the Tomato soup, Khao Suey, Kiev, desserts and to try the chicken pot pie and crumble and the Lindt Chocolate with orange cake. Yes, all of THAT! Yay!
Like I always say, it’s not the restaurant that’s good or bad,  it’s the food and you just have to know what to order. Citrus is definitely Aba and my new favourite haunt right now!
