See how designer Sana Omar Farooq, models Zara Abid and Kanwal Ilyas and photographer Alee Hassan spent the day shooting this fabulous luxury couture collection:
What is the design philosophy of this particular collection?
The collection takes inspiration from the era La Belle La Poque, where theatre and music took center stage and fashion was ever evolving. The silhouette for this collection is minimalist yet seductive, consisting of breathtaking evening gowns, jackets and flared pants. Peapod, minerals and metallic hues set the tone for the color palette, and overall the feel of the collection is luxurious and ceremonial.
What is the concept for the shoot?
The shoot took place in the monumental Jinnah library in Lahore. The idea was to find a place that took us back to the era from which the collection is inspired. The high ceilings were stunning, and the aquatic tones in it were just perfect.
Which evening wear trend do you want to see die this year?
The done to death typical lehnga choli.
Which silhouette do you want to see more of this year?
Structured jackets and draped evening gowns.
Personal favorite outfit?
My favorite outift is this gorgeous cinched waist evening gown in silver cloud and gun metal. It’s simply breathtaking!
How was your experience working with Sana?
It was an amazing experience! I loved working with the Republic team and had so much fun on set.
How do you feel you relate to the brand?
I’m obsessed with this latest collection. It’s a brand for women who want to look classy, feminine and fabulous, and those who can appreciate fine detailing and impeccable craftsmanship.
What was the funniest thing that happened on the shoot?
When the students at the library kept giving us annoyed looks, or when we were eating outside in the cafeteria. We all felt like we were back in school.
Personal favourite outfit?
Personally, I love the whole collection. There were two outfits I absolutely adored and that stood out to me most. One was the peplum jacket with flared trousers and the other one was a long gown with silver work.
What was the concept of the shoot?
The concept revolved around the aesthetics of the collection. We wanted to put together a glamorous and modern perspective.
Why did you go for two models instead of one?
Two models always bring more content and interest to the shoot. I wanted very high fashion poses and loved the way Kanwal and Zara worked off each others energy.
What was the funniest/craziest thing that happened?
Getting several permissions from the library and not being able to raise my voice high enough that models could hear what I wanted them to pose like, or where to move.
Was the brand particular about anything?
Sana was particular about the posing of models and the lighting of the shoot. She wanted each shot to be perfect!
Was there any particular song that played throughout the shoot?
Ummm… It was a library! Shhhh!!!   Â
