SANA HAFEEZ SHEIKH

Sana Hafeez Sheikh

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

I’m having a baby girl who is inshAllah due in the start of April.

What was your reaction when you found out?

Initially, I was numb with excitement, but once it sunk in and I found out the gender, I was jumping with joy! I was bouncing around the house, because this was the best gift I could have gotten from God.

What are some baby names currently on the table?

I knew the name I wanted for my little pudding right off the bat! As a matter of fact, I speak to her all the time and call her by that name – but that’s a surprise for all once I finally pop.

Describe your maternity style:

My maternity style changes according to where I’m going. At work, I’m super comfy in tracks and my Toms, but when I go out I still like to dress up! Recently I wore a super cool Sana Safinaz jumpsuit to a party, and to the Ponds Miracle Journey event, I wore sexy one shoulder lace number with flared pants, which helped me embrace my baby bump! Also, I will attempt to stay in heels as long as I can!

What are you most nervous about?

Just the thought of labour makes me super scared! Some days I tell myself I am a superwoman and I’m ready for natural childbirth, and other days I’m just like… C section all the way!  I’m nervous, yet excited.

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

My friends all keep telling me to read all the pregnancy books I can before she arrives.

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

I havn’t experienced too many strange cravings, but everyday at midnight I need my chocolate milkshake from Butlers!

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

I know what I’m having, but that’s a secret! I’m due mid May.

What was your reaction when you found out?

Well to be honest, it was quite a surprise! Hissam, my husband, was instantly over the moon, and so was I of course, but it doesn’t really register right away. Once I started feeling the baby’s presence, then I really start realizing how beautiful the process is.

Describe your maternity style:

Well, I just ordered a whole bunch of cute maternity clothes now that my bump is nice and round, but I’ve been wearing comfy stretchy pants and loose tops and tees. My priority is to be comfy, but still have fun outfits.

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

Someone told me that you will look at the world through your child’s eyes, and everything will be more exciting, even something as simple as going for a walk or eating cotton candy. I thought that was such a sweet way of describing the process. I don’t know if that’s advice per say, but it was put so beautifully that it stuck in my head. Other than that, my motto has been to relax and handle things as they come. I’m not the first woman becoming a mother, so why stress? Although, I guess I’ll have to see if my calm nature still applies once the baby is here!

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

Shades of grey and white.

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

Fried eggs.

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

I am having a baby girl (InshAllah) and I’m due around the first week of April.

What was your reaction when you found out?

It came as a surprise to both of us as it wasn’t planned at all! My husband was over the moon because he loves babies, while I was initially nervous about having a newborn alongside my young hyper toddler, but MashAllah it has been a smooth journey so far.

Describe your maternity style:

I believe in celebrating the pregnancy bump! It symbolizes a happy occasion and I take pride that my baby breathes inside my body, so I feel no shame in showing it off! I think it’s beautiful. I also feel that the taboo of hiding your ‘bump’ should be discouraged in our society. So, at work I’m in my comfy maternity jeans with a tee or in my desi attire, but at a party you can spot me in a cocktail or body hugging dress!

What are you most nervous about?

As a workaholic, I need to continue working to feel normal  otherwise I would slip into depression. I don’t know a life otherwise. I’m nervous about finding the perfect balance between my work life and motherhood; they are both part of my identity and losing either would mean losing myself. Also, I’m most nervous about handling a hyper toddler and a newborn at the same time – luckily so far my son Aarez is excited to meet his baby sister.

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

A happy mum is a good mum!

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

Since I never involve personal sentiments in my interior design projects, this particular room is very special to me. It’s inspired by Hofburg Palace, the State Opera in Vienna and Alexanderplatz in Berlin, which are all the places I enjoyed most on my babymoon. It’s extremely vintage with an arched mirror, lots of carving and a soft palette in baby pink, mint, white and grey. There are accents of ballerina visible in the room and some vintage floral upholstery. The room is a journey of all the places I visited and enjoyed while carrying my baby in belly!

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

During my second trimester I started craving anything and everything sweet! Luckily, that phase is over and I’m back to eating and drinking healthy stuff such as beetroot juices, fruits and nuts.

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

A boy! I’m almost there – and Inshallah, I am due end of April.

What was your reaction when you found out?

I was shocked, as I have my hands full with my little one already! But my husband Shiraz was really, really excited about having another baby.

What are some baby names currently on the table?

We like strong masculine names like Suleman, Taimoor, Sher,  etc, but we’re still deciding! Most probably, my husband will make the final call once the little one is here.

Describe your maternity style:

Anything that still fits me. Luckily, this pregnancy was during Winter, so I got to layer and cover my bump. I will however, definitely miss wearing only flat shoes!

What are you most nervous about?

My daughter’s reaction to having a sibling.

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

To take every day or moment as it comes. It makes everything less stressful and more enjoyable.

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

My two year old has a white and pink coloured nursery, so I’ll fit in the new born somewhere in there for the time being!

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

Raw carrots!

MALEEHA AKRAM

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

A boy! I’m due in May currently, and right on my birthday!

What was your reaction when you found out?

We were absolutely ecstatic the minute when we found out, and 2 minutes later my husband Usman was already stressing about fixing a car seat!

What are some baby names currently on the table?

Currently, I’m leaning towards the name Murad, but we have to wait and see what fits him.

Describe your maternity style:

Whatever fits me, haha!

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

Learn to trust my own instincts and realize my own ability to know what is right for my child.

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

I’m going for yellow and blue stripes and plaids. I want to keep it masculine without it being too on the nose.

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

Anything hot and spicy! I’ve gone to the extreme of eating fresh chilies even, because really… The hotter the better!

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

We were hoping for a girl this time, but it’s a boy again! We are just happy to know Rohaan will have a partner to play with soon InshAllah. I’m due sometime around end May to early June.

What was your reaction when you found out?

Since this is our second child, the news didn’t come as shocking as it did the first time. We are all just looking forward to a new beautiful addition to our family.

What are some baby names currently on the table?

The last time we went with what my husband Fahad wanted, and now everyone from the baby’s Nani to Par-Dadi is giving suggestions! I like the traditional route where the elders have a say, and currently we have a huge list and everyone is welcome to add their options. So let’s see, we are as curious as everyone else for the outcome!

What are you most nervous about?

I’m not nervous, just anxious to see what the baby looks like!

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

Encourage them to get up themselves after they fall  – that’s life’s first lesson and a very important one.

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

I like minimalistic designs and spot colours. Currently Rohaan’s room consists of sky blue, white and a hint of yellow. I don’t plan on changing it much but just adding a baby crib for the moment. I hope Rohaan is excited to share his room!

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

I have heard of strange cravings, like women wanting to eat chalk and sour things like full lemons! I, on the other hand, am very easy going in general. I love ice cream and find my condition the perfect excuse to hog on some every day.

RAFIA SHEHRYAR

Rafia Shehryar

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

Yes I know what I’m having, but I haven’t disclosed it. I’m due in June, inshaAllah!

What was your reaction when you found out?

This is our second child, so the excitement level wasn’t very high (discrimination, I know! Haha). But obviously we were still very happy, especially my husband.

Describe your maternity style:

To be honest, I’ve been so busy and occupied this past year, I barely got time to focus on my health and pregnancy – let alone my maternity style! Track pants and night suits are everything!

What are you most nervous about?

Delivering a healthy and happy baby is always the foremost concern.

What is the best parenting advice you have gotten so far?

My best parenting advice comes from my experience the first time – DON’T Google!

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

My sister did my firstborn’s nursery about four years ago in neutral cream and beiges. I’ll be keeping the same room for this baby, as I love it and don’t feel the need to make any changes!

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

I crave sushi a lot, which is funny because the general perception is that one must avoid it. But I believe in eating everything in moderate quantity with the right precaution. FYI, Japanese women also get pregnant and find this myth highly insulting, so it’s all good!

MANAHYL SHAFI

manahyl shafi

Do you know what you’re having? When are you due?

I’m having a baby girl InshAllah, and am due at the end of June.

What was your reaction when you found out?

After having our first child, we know the joy of having a little brat running around. Both of us are ecstatic and can’t wait to complete our family. Jahanzeb has always wanted a daughter, so he was thrilled to hear it.

Describe your maternity style:

My maternity style is pretty much my usual style, albeit in bigger sizes. I do wear more dresses though while pregnant to avoid the fuss of pants.

What are you most nervous about?

Delivering the baby, because I know just what that’s like now.

What theme are you going for with the nursery?

I keep the nurseries gender-neutral. My first born had a grey and white theme going on, and for this new baby, I’m yet to get started!

Have you had any strange cravings yet?

Yes! Many, many cravings. The strangest would have to be the Marks & Spencer salt and vinegar chiplets, which of course you don’t get here. I had to have them shipped to me stat!
